You kept telling yourself that it is OK..you kept on reminding yourself that this is normal...everyone will have similar experience.....remember this is not your first time doing your job.....you have done this so many times... you have done well so far....you know it!!!!

You begin to realize that there are always a first week in your life....

BE IT....

Your first week of becoming successful....

It is a reality in life....Everyone will have their first week....But not everyone can tell you about their first week...coz not everyone remembers their first week!!!!

It's been a long long time.......since I last fine touch and tune my blog...left unattended for almost 2 months....and since my last "HELL" entry ...AND..it's been really HELL.as usual..coz I have been working nights all these while....been working while everyone is sleeping....been coping to adapt to a life of a night crawler...creepy!!!!!

I felt a sigh of relief at this moment....THE REASON BEING......No more nights for me for the next half of year....that's right and not....till next year...

Is it really that bad working at night??

Well....YES and NO!!

YES

1. You lose your life. You have given up living normally.
2. You lose your friends. You want to talk to them but they are all fast asleep!!!
3. You are alone. Walking alone in the hospital. Seeing patient alone and worst of all.. talking alone...to yourself!!!!
4. You can't do anything in the morning coz it's your turn to sleep!!! For you information, normal office hours are from 8 till 5. NB: I normally woke up at 6pm
5. You go to work at 9pm. That's when everyone go to bed!!!
6. You only eat twice a day...HENCE = LOSING WEIGHT + FALL SICK!!!!
7. AND WORST OF ALL.... your friend has to remind you to write your blog...what a shame!!!!

NO

1. You are not attached to any unit, so you are pretty free.. only seeing patient when they have problem!!!
2. A quiet night is like "gold dropping from the sky"...the reason being....you sit there and do nothing...but still received the same pay!!!....BUT it only occurs in less than 1% of the days you were on...and....PLEASE ACCEPT THE FACT...IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!!!!!
3. You learn to do stuff on your own....faster and more efficiently...coz you dun have many people to ask....Most seniors are at home fast asleep!!
4. BEST OF ALL.....working at nights make your wallet thicker!!!

PS: I am not money minded!!!!

It seems cons are more than pros....or is it the fact that I am just a bad brain stormer.....I think it is the latter!!!

I am home today at 5 pm sharp. I am very proud as this is certainly very unusual...very unusual in a way that it seldom happens....indeed unusual at it does happens....TODAY!!!!!!

This 2 weeks has been..you are smart enough to guess...very well...I did not attend to this blog for the past 1 week plus..So much so, I have forgotten my URL and password......DArN!!!!! see

SEE.....the impact of work on a person can be so daunting!!!!!!...I hope I will never ever forget my own name.....no..no..

My registrar (by this time you should know what a registrar is..if still no...go and bang yourself to the wall 3 times before reading further) has gone on holidays..AND..I wish I can go to!!!!!....and a new registrar was replacing him. Remember in the beginning of my previous post, I have explained to you different types of handover....the one that scare the most out of me is a crappy one i.e. things that halfly done or never done.....DArN!!!!!

My new registrar really knew nothing much about the patients.....as a result from..you know!!! So...I am kind of two in one....have to brief him EVERYDAY regarding the same patient!!!! And as usual the ward is paging me....every 2 minutes......and as usual I placed it in vibrate mode....a little better!!!

For the past 2 days...it has also been...you know.......HELL!!!!!! Going home at 10pm everynight..have dinner at 11...slept at 12 and woke at 5.30 in the morning....HELL indeed!!!!!!!

Now you know why I felt proud today????

It has been ages since me last post. A week ago...I think..

Me greatest apologies. As you know, me kind of work..requires me to be at work more than at home. Hence, me have less time at home, and thus less time spend to blog...

What makes me blog (FYI I dun like calling me self a blogger, but rather a bluffer...hehe...) different from me friends is that you only sees new entry being posted once or twice a week. To other people this may sound like a kind of special thing....but honestly...this is not special at all, as it really drives me visitors away and it also driving me nuts!!!

...and I guess I have to work around it and fix it!!!!

To make things nicer and make me feels better about me self...I have called me self a part time bluffer...how's that sound??

Part time bluffer....has its own advantages and disadvantages...

Advantages (If any....)

1. Me can think of a better story to bluff!!

2. Me can write one hell of a good damn bluff...stop for a while...let people get excited what next bluffing is all about (another way of getting famous)

3. Me can rest as me bluff is part time

4. Me only use me brain to think about what to bluff only once a week..so me brain can also rest!!

5. Me can have time to do some other things like cleaning me house (last time was 3 months ago)!!! YUKKKSSSSS!!!!!

The disdvantages (there sure is...)

1. Me lost all me visitors who visit frequently and thus loss me bluff ranking!!!

2. Me still have to pay for internet broadband eventhough me didn't touch the computer and internet

3. Me did not get to exercise me brain reqularly.coz from resting too much..hence me thinking power drops!!!

4. Me become less attractive....sorry.....I mean me bluff!!!

5. Me got to clean the house which me hate the most!!!!!!!

Enough of me self tonight. Remember to stay put for me bluff!!!!

Remember my post on CK Tan, my good friend of 21 years. It was an unknown post. Remember I said I want to advertise him secretly...hehehe....

Although I did not tell anyone, it seems a lot of my other friends managed to find a way to it..and they like it so much...to an extent that this post was commented 7 times and viewed 66 times since I posted it last week and it is still counting!!!

Also my friend of 21 years, Sherry Lee...has pointed out to me an incident that happened years ago. Thanks for reminding....indeed something that have sparked my interest to post more of similar entries!!!..kekeke....

Do you still remember your young school days...waiting for your "bas sekolah" (school bus in Malay) to come and fetch you to and back from school..I can bet with you; 8 out of 10 of us who is reading this right now has some sort of similar experience!!!

Why is this common? COZ majority of our parents have to work to make a living. They can't afford just to sit their ass at home and do nothing while waiting for the time to fetch you to and fro from the school.

My mum likes to say " ng sai chou meh?" which literally means (In English) "no need to work meh?" and "ngo ng hiu yan ngan zi?" which also means "I don't know how to print money" !! Well...she is right!!!

Not everyone is born with everything!! Not everyone is that lucky!! But, There are certainly people out there that match this description. Some of them even have personal drivers!!! My GOD!!!!

ANYWAY....

My focus today is not on lucky bastards that have personal drivers...we can forget about them at this moment. I will talk about them some other time!!

But rather..

A school bus that I have been in, the interesting people that I have been in with and interesting and memorable incidence that had happened while I am in it!!

We are looking back at more than 14 years ago.

Now..there is a little different about this school bus...a little different...coz CK Tan's mum owns it. In a way, you can say CK Tan's mum is the chairlady (COZ she drives the bus) and CK himself is the CEO (He facilitates conversations and gossips....hahaha)

And then..we have Sherry Lee (I have been in most school bus with her than anyone else...right Sherry??...hahaha), Mr Sin (Sin is his family name, it has nothing to do with his sins or whatsoever..if he sees this, he probably might kill me!!..), Rosemary mary mary Yun or Jessie (now married and a very successful pharmacist) and obviously not forgeting me, the owner of this blog!!!

At that time, there are only 5 of us. And it is always 5 of us. The school bus is moderate in size, not too small, not too big. Just imagine, if there are only 5 of us in that bus....how comfortable will that be???..kekeke...I don't really need to tell you...you can figure this out yourself!!

I have been in 2 previous buses before this. My GOD!!! I was treated like sardines!!! As my mum like to used the word "sardines" ...seriously you are pretty much jam packed sardines minus the tomato sauce in a can, waiting to explode!!!! AND this bus that I was in... the driver drives like a mad cow... and...he is also famous with the Hakka word "kiak dit eh!!"

"kiak dit, kiat dit" in Hakka means "faster, faster" and is a usual term that you heard in this sort jam packed buses. COZ when it is "kiak tit", they can fetch more kids and have higher turnover. Who say aunties and uncles don't know how to calculate???...big shot chartered accountant also kalahlah!!!!!!

Now....

You know that having five people in a moderate size school bus, and you knew all of them, and it is spacious (at least you are not treated like sardines) make it fun and interesting.....

....up until one day......

And the story goes like this.....

It is already 6 pm. We have just finished another ordinary day of school. Tired...as usual. All of us just very eager to go home. Wanted to get out of the school..after a half a day of crap SHET!! by some of the weirdest teachers!!!!

One..two...three...four and five....good!! All counted for. Yeah...we all can go now. The journey is not too long, usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes (plus minus traffic) and about 3 to 4 km to the first target drop..haha...that's Mr Sin, second drop, Jessie, third Sherry and I am fourth before both CK and his mum goes home.

A lot of people might think that what the heck is 10 -15 minutes or 3 -4 km. It is not that long...yeah it is definitely not long..but it can be long if you are having fun!!!

Most of the time, the settings of sitting, the front row..there will be Sherry and Jessie, the middle row..CK himself and Mr Sin, obviously Me, always at the back...I enjoy sitting at the back!!!

This story is dedicated specially to both Mr Sin and Jessie.

A little about Mr Sin, for those who haven't know who is he yet..he is usually pretty talkative, loves to laugh, and everyone called him Stephen Chow Junior (found in the form 5 year book)...hahaha...don't kill me please WL

And there is Jessie..who normally likes to defend herself and her thoughts if challenged....I think Jessie will surely defend herself again when she sees this.....hahahaha

We were talking about something..and me..as usual just observed..chip in my thoughts once a while...

AND...out of a sudden..Mr Sin becomes a little annoyed and serious !!!(my first thought was..this is very unusual....he is normally playful and not serious...becoming serious only can make you think of 2 things..either he is sick or he is angry...he was laughing and talking just a minute ago...obviously it is the latter)

AND Jessie as well...her whole face suddenly turned red...hahaha

I think we were all talking about a topic...not entirely sure what the heck we were talking about???....ANYWAY....

The issue we were talking about...suddenly turn sour...coupled with the fact that the sky is getting dark outside...I was actually scared!!!

Things became worse when both Jessie and Mr Sin started waving their pair of hands hitting each other....in the face, in the head, on the shoulder...you name it...they have hit it..hahaha....and it became worse when Mr Sin started to be a little physical...showing his manhood....started pulling Jessie's hair...and Jessie in return started grabbing hold of his foot and leg...amazed how she can do that...with great respect!!!! Hahahaha

And Jessie was like "hou tong ah..wei...fong sau oh!!!!" ..which means "it is painful, let go!! darn it!!!!"..hahahahaha...and Mr Sin on the other hand "bei fan chek hai ngo eh!!!!"..which means "give me back my shoe!!"....hahahahaha..come to think of it now...it was actually really really funny!! ...I was a little scared and nervous at that time but both CK and Sherry were enjoying themselves...and CK's mum (we called her auntie) was panicking "wei...lei dei hou ting oh!!!"...which means "hey..you guys better stop it!!"....hahahaha

Fortunately for all of us that night.....it did not continue for long and we were pretty much laughing about it the next day. And as usual Jessie's face turns red again!!!...kekekeke....please don't hate me Jessie!!!

The truth is...we have all enjoyed ourselves!!!....Hahaha

I have been talking about how hard life is a resident and how to become a good resident in my previous entries, but I have not really explained to my precious reader what the heck a resident is? However, a lot of people might have heard of this word being mentioned on TV many many times!!!

Anyone who is a die hard fan of the famous "ER" or "Grey Anatomy", "House"or even "Scrub" (in which I am not!!) must know what I am talking about.... The word "resident" is probably mentioned every 2 t0 3 minutes in every episode and every season!!!! (Just exaggerating...hahaha!!!!)

A resident is someone not too junior nor too senior. YOU are kind of in the middle between an intern (the most junior of all) and the registar (which actually means a senior resident...a term only being used in the UK, Ireland, NZ and Australia..). The term "registrar" is never use in the US, but they used "senior resident" instead.

Why do I always winge about the life of a resident is that tough and this hard?????

COZ

1. You are in the middle. Kind of on the fence. But obviously you have to make decision!!!

2. The junior staff (i.e interns) will come and approach you first if they have a problem!! Although this is not always.

3. If you can solve their problem...that's no PROBLEM at all!! But if you can't solve their problem..and you yourself has your own PROBLEM...then you are really having SERIOUS SERIOUS PROBLEM!!!!

4. Your pay is shet!!!! Almost similar to an intern. And you work twice harder!!!!

5. You work longer hours..sometime even longer than the registrar!! COZ the hospital is SMART in calling you back to work as you are cheaper to be maintained, if you know what I meant!!

6. Everyone wants to have a go at you...even the b@#%&* ward clerk!!!!

6. It is harder to get things done...I mean the complicated things.... COZ nobody believes you..your word is not powerfullah..as simple as that!!!!

7. Nurses don't believe what you said. If they do, they do not have to clarify with the registrar!! DARN!!!

8. Believe it or not...Even sometimes patients do not believe what you said

So...

Now...you must have a quite bad impression about being a resident..yeah...thanks to me!!!!

However.. the truth is.......

1. You are actually the most important group of doctors in a health care settings. You can pretty much called yourself a VIP (very interesting person, or very irresistable person)!!!! ..hehehe....everyone wants you!!!

2. You are the enforcers. You make sure things are done!!

3. You make the most phone calls (obviously not personal ones!!!) than anyone in the hospital!!! You also get the most pages!!!

4. You make sure the ward is under control when the "registrar" is away!!!

5. You are the first one to get called if there is an emergency!!

AND...Everyone...and I meant everyone has to go through this at a certain stage of their career!! So, am I!!!

PS: Remember when you first born, you did not even know how to crawl!!!

Being a resident has taught me a lot of things. Not just hard cold facts that you can dig from any medical textbooks, how to overcome your own fear and failure, how to face others but I think the most important of all, is how to learn to learn in improving yourself and becoming better!!!!

As my friend, the Cruel Angel always says "tough time don't last, tough people do!!! "

He is right!! He is absolutely right!!!!!

Life is not always dark and hard. Always look on the bright side!!!!!!

Last week, I was extremely busy and stressful. Remember I mentioned about the hospital treating my like a robot. If you can't remember, you are probably new to my blog site. That's OK. I will forgive you!! You can read it here.

For your information, I was no longer being treated like a robot, but like a GOD instead!!!!

It seems my misery is still never ending!!! Getting more and more busier. Last night I was covering the ward till 9.30 pm..yeah..technically till then but I was only able to go home after 10.30 pm. Remember, last week my pager was beeping every 5 minutes. Yesterday, it was beeping every 2 minutes, that's has been 3 minute earlier..this also means that I have 3 minutes less to spent with a patient...can you imagine getting paged 4 to 5 times over the same thing!!! Can't you guys just wait????......I was so sick of hearing the beeping sound...

SO.....

I decided to set it to vibrating mode...and it will only vibrate and not beep....a little better!!!

POOR ME!!!! Only managed to have my dinner at 11pm..you probably called it supper...but this is really my dinner!!!!!

No need to eat, No break, Not enough sleep, working...working...and...working!!!!

No wonder I was treated like a GOD!!!!

If you have advanced yourself from being paged every 5 minutes (i.e a robot) to practically every 2 minutes, you are practically being GOD, and the patient being cared by you also thinks that you are GOD. And the misperception continues, thinking that you can do miracle all the time by both patients and nurses!!!!

I am contradicting myself today....really banging my head hard on the wall!!! As my saying goes "Life is full of miracle, life is also full of shet!!! And this is happening to me right now!!"

Please...I am no GOD!!! Don't treat me like one!!!

PS: Even my patient laughed at me coz my pager vibrate 4 times while I was putting a peripheral line in. "The hospital wants you again, hahaha....yeah right??"

Any thoughts of being a GOD!!!

(PS: I never thought of one. But I was treated like one!!!!)

YESS!! Heaps!!!

1. You are never one, will never be one, so stop dreaming of becoming one!!!

2. You will suffer if you try to become one!!

3. Your patient will suffer if you decide to become one!!

4. Your team will suffer if you still dreaming of becoming one!!

SO...

If you are still being treated like one, stop dreaming about it, COZ you will never become one!!!!

Be practical, Be down to earth....

Bus Uncle???巴士阿叔

The story begins.....

Have you ever heard of "Bus Uncle"? If you have lived in Hong Kong during the period of May 06, or if you know how to read a chinese newspaper, you will probably have heard of him. "Bus uncle" or "巴士阿叔" in chinese is not really about a person as a person himself but rather referring to a sequence of intense argument on a bus between a stupid, hardheaded uncle and a young man, probably my age; surprisingly being able be captured by one of the passengers when this happened!!!

Before I continue, you might be wondering why the heck this young man want to argue with his uncle. In the chinese culture, you called someone (I mean a guy) who is pretty much older than you "uncle", which is actually a polite way to address someone who is more senior than you. Beware that this doesn't mean that you are related to this person. Mind that you don't simply called someone uncle just based on the fact that they are older than you. If you are 15 years old, you can called a 45 year old man "uncle". But if you called someone who is 25 year old "uncle", you will probably get smacked!!! So be careful, who are you dealing with...Use your brainlah!!!

Enough of this "uncle" shet!!......

The interesting part is...what really happened????

But before I tell you this, just imagine that...it is at night and it is already 11 pm. You are on a bus, a double decker bus (you won't get this in M'sia). And you are talking on your mobile phone ( hand phone if you are in M'sia), there is another "Uncle" (this time you can call him "uncle" as he is definitely FAR MORE older than you) who are also on his mobile phone talking away. But the problem is, he is talking so loudly that you can't hear what the heck your girlfriend is talking about on the far end!!

So you decided to tap on his shoulder, address him nicely as "Uncle" and tell him that " Can you lower your voice a little?". The problem is, it will never be a PROBLEM if the "Uncle" is a normal, sensible person. But the PROBLEM is, this uncle that you have just tapped, is a hard headed, easily stressed out kind of person, apparently on his phone talking about some important life issues. Even before you've got a chance to finish talking with your girlfriend, he has turned around and started going beserked and said " Get the hell off the bus now!!!"

AND....

During this time, another passenger who are just sitting diagonally to you, started to roll his mobile phone camera, and both of you and the "uncle" 's HEATED conversations were captured. It went on for the next 6 minutes or so. And poor you were being yelled at by this "uncle" whom you just met 6 minutes ago, and the thing is, you and the 'uncle" you've just met are going to be famous very very soon!!!

So..you know the jist of this story and how it happened, roughly, from your imagination above....

Let's start kicking some real stuff.......

The people in action..

1. Mr "Bus Uncle", his real name Roger Chan Yeut Tong or 陳乙東 in chinese, a restaurant worker in his fifties (he is an "uncle" alright!!), apparently on his phone to a suicide prevention support hotline, after his girlfriend asked him to piss off. His pic below...

2. Mr "Young man got yelled at", his real name Elvis Ho Yui Hei or 何銳熙 in chinese, a real estate manager in his family owned Mong Kok real estate company (so young already a real estate manager...). His pic below...

This is what really happened....

NB : Before you start watching, this is real life situation and it is not produced by TVB. Be prepared of what you are going to see COZ I don't want you to end up like Mr "Bus Uncle"!!!

For the sake of our non cantonese speaking readers, let us slowly dissect what the issue was in this conversation between Mr "Young man got yelled at" and Mr "Bus Uncle" and the reason why it has ended up to 6 minutes.

From the video....

Bus Uncle: Get off the bus immediately! Don't stay on the bus!

Young Man: This isn't necessary.

Bus Uncle: If it is unnecessary, why did you pat me on the shoulder? When I was talking on the phone, you...

Bus uncle is extremely pissed off at this present moment. A light tap on his shoulder has sparked off his other side....

Young Man: (interrupts) Boss...

He tries to be more polite this time by calling him boss...

Bus Uncle: Hey, don't call me "boss". For the sake of fairness, we don't know each other. Why did you have to do that? (faster tone) Why did you have to do that? Look, everyone in society suffers from stress. Now that you have done something very unfair, should I have a word with you?

I am not really sure what this hard head is up to... He doesn't want to be addressed as boss...

Young Man: (softly) I think we already aren't having a pleasant conversation anymore...

He is right....

Bus Uncle: (angrily interrupts) Now that we're talking, I ask you. Have I touched you? Well?

Still in his own world....

Young Man: Just what do you want me to do?

Bus Uncle: What do I want you to do? I want you to apologize!

Fair enough..if you want me to apologize, I will!!

Young Man: Sorry, I didn't mean to.

Good!!!!

Bus Uncle: What do you mean, "You didn't mean to"? Who's right, you or me?

Darn it, hard head...he has already apologize..what more do you want???

Young Man: (interrupts softly) You want to save face.

He should have said, you are right, I was wrong for tapping on the shoulder. I apologized. Let's move on with our life. But...instead he is trying to be a hard head himself by saying things like that. This conversation should have ended here....but unfortunately there are 2 hard heads that do not want to give up!!!!!

Bus Uncle: What?

Obviously he is more angry now......

Young Man: (louder) You just want to save face. Sorry, boss.

Bus Uncle: I don't want to save face! Hey look, first, when you spoke on the phone, I did not interfere with you.(Elvis puts his right arm on the headrest of the seat.)

Even more angrier....

Bus Uncle: Why do you have to say I'm talking too loudly? I simply haven't disturbed you. Right? So, what do you have to say for yourself?

He is right..but no need to shout..

Young Man: Well, nothing really has happened, it's all that simple.

Bus Uncle: What has happened to you? Just what do you want? Hmm... I want to settle this with you.

Young Man: The matter is settled, it's that simple.

Bus Uncle: It isn't settled.

Young Man: It's settled.

Bus Uncle: (louder) It isn't settled!

Young Man: It's settled.

Bus Uncle: (yelling very loudly) It isn't settled!!! We both have to settle this right now! To put it simply, when you talked on the phone, did I interrupt you? Why did you interupt me?

I am speechless...two hard heads still do not want to give up!!

Young Man: You were talking too loudly.

1. Some people always thinks that he or she is right!!
2. Some people will not lose out without first fighting for their rights!!
3. Some people has different stress threshold. Your stress threshold is different from mine!!
4. Some people will utter some form of extraterrestial language when they are stress out!! Be it 10, 55 or even 105 years old!!! They learn this faster than they learn their ABC!!
5. Some people will yell at other when they are stressful!! Eventhough they are usually gentle!!
